2DopeBoyz Highlights Est. St. Louis’ ‘The Montclairs’

2Dopeboyz.com is following Elliot’s suit by providing the samples behind the music.  Their latest Beat Miner League offering comes from East. St. Louis’ soul group, The Montclairs.  As they explain:

Second week of our new section, The Beatminer League. Today we’ll focus on a soul group straight out of East St.Louis: The Montclairs. While information is pretty sparse on the group, it is known that they released one album in 1972 on Paula Records, and although none of their numbers ever charted on Billboard, a couple came very close. It’s a damn shame because the album, Dreaming Out of Season is packed densely with some intense soul. A truly slept on masterpiece which is why it’s demanding such high prices these days. A couple of their songs were sampled, but today we’ll focus on Do I Stand a Chance which you all may be more familiar with as Prodigy’s Bang On ‘Em, Smoke DZA’s On the Corner and Fat Joe’s Valley of Death. So what’s the consensus from the dopeboyz and girlz? Who flipped it best? Poll after the jump and peep the blog too.

Take a listen to all the tracks over at 2Dopeboyz.com
